Dry Needling vs Acupuncture?
Dry needling is a type of acupuncture. Within the practice of acupuncture, there are many subsets and specialties. Dry needling is within the scope of acupuncturists, particularly those like myself with advanced bodywork and orthopedic acupuncture training.
When I do “dry needling” or trigger point work, I do it in the context of a well-thought out Chinese medial sinew treatment plan—I do not just put the needles where there is a trigger point—the superior strategy involves creating a pathway for the energy trapped in the trigger point by using distal points on the hands and feet.
